Ukrainian children should have equal access to knowledge and higher education establishments.  

 

Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made the foregoing statement on Wednesday, International Children´s Day, meeting the students of Kyiv-Pecherskyi Lyceum "Leader."  

 

V.Lytvyn deems necessary to improve the system of entrance to the higher education establishments. "It is right to place the highest priority on testing, claiming that it would provide equal opportunities for entrance, however, it is equal access to knowledge that should be guaranteed," the Head of the Parliament stated.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls for taking action to raise the prestige of the teacher´s job and strengthen financial support of education. V.Lytvyn supposes that children should have an opportunity to communicate with their peers from other countries, comparing the level of knowledge.

V.Lytvyn also attended exhibition of literary and artistic works of the participants and winners of the All-Ukrainian Contest of Pupils´ and Students´ Artwork "Moral Act" in the lobbies of the Parliament.

 

"You have demonstrated how one should understand humanity, kindness, sincerity, and morality," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated, addressing the children. "Your eyes are shining, you are ready to build the state and become leaders." "I feel that you have heart and soul," he added.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine answered numerous questions of the children concerning the Parliament´s work, and economic outlooks of the state in part of innovation technologies.

 

V.Lytvyn stated that the primary task of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is to lay out the rules of co-existence to support development of Ukraine, which will unite the country and lead it in the right direction. He stressed that the Parliament should become the most authoritative place of dialogue in the Ukrainian society.    

 

The Head of the Parliament laid emphasis on the powerful intellectual, industrial and agrarian potential of Ukraine. He deems necessary to focus on the economy of knowledge to support further development by advance technologies and knowledge. Along these lines, V.Lytvyn called for employing innovation technologies in the agricultural sector, since Ukraine could supply foodstuffs to almost 1 billion people, if agriculture is properly developed.     

 

Asked about legislative support of children´s rights in Ukraine, V.Lytvyn stated that despite an extensive legislative base, the laws are not duly implemented, starting from the right of birth and the right to normal life upbringing, education, employment, and realization of rights in different spheres." "If the election system is ‘closed´, young people will not be able to make it into politics, unless they belong to a particular social group," he admitted.

 

The Head of the Parliament regretted that the value of diplomas of prestigious higher education establishments deteriorates, as they no longer guarantee self-fulfillment. "Experts say that social status and connections are coming to the fore," he admitted.
